Transition Year Programme

Transition Year (TY) is an optional one-year program in Irish post-primary schools that bridges the Junior Cycle and the Senior Cycle. It provides students with opportunities for personal, social, and academic development through a blend of independent learning, work experience, and community involvement, helping them mature before starting the two-year Leaving Certificate program. Some schools may make it compulsory, while others offer it as an elective.

Prayer Spaces can align perfectly with the Transition Year mission statement as outlined in the DES 1994 guidelines in a variety of ways. By incorporating a Prayer Spaces unit, you can provide a valuable experience that fosters:

  • Personal Development: Pupils will explore their own beliefs and spiritual identity in a safe space.
  • Social Development: The unit encourages understanding and tolerance for diverse beliefs and cultures.
  • Educational Development: Pupils engage in project-based learning, delving into creative prayer concepts and design principles.
  • Vocational Development: The project allows students to showcase communication and teamwork skills while potentially sparking an interest in fields like community service or design.

Please download this cover sheet document which outlines how our Transition Year Programme can enhance the TY experience for pupils. If you would like to find out more about the programme then please send us an email.
